Dear Mr. Ralphɛ,

I understand that Mr. A. White, of the Garrison School, her applied to your Department as regards prospects of future employment on his leaving the army.

From a Scouting point of view I was not at all looking forward to his leaving the Colony, as he is one of our few British Scout officers, and moreover one who understands to the full the underlying idea of the movement and has the confidence of his boye. His troop is the one in the local Association which seems to me to be run on lines closest to the ideals of the originator of the movement, and when you remember that the movement is strictly non-militarist and that the position of Ecoutmaster to Scout should be that of experienced friend guiding ratner tran dictating, Mr. White's success is all the more astounding, surrounded e he is by nothing but military atmosphere and in occupation schoolmaster of the boys in his troop.

I hope therefore that it may be possible to keep him in the Colony, if only from this point of view alone. As regards Kr. White

imself, I have nothing but the greatest respect for him and his family, and I am sure that Mr. Shewell, the Army Chaplain, will agree with me In this.

Youre very sincerely,

G.T.Waldegrave.
